PETA- Pita

For the most part I don't read grizzly ass books. I don't need to read something scary to be on the edge of my seat. If you've ever read my blog or have had the supreme pleasure of speaking with me - bahaha -  you already know that my head is like a Fellini film. Several of my smarty pants friends suggested I read the Steig Larson books. I don't want to ruin the plot or anything for you, but suffice it to say that Steig's books take place in a very cold climate. There isn't much to do in this cold climate near Finland, except sit around, don reindeer sweaters, drink Stoli and build torture chambers. I'm a native New Yorker but I'm a wimp in the cold so Steig's characters' favorite past times kind of made sense to me - that is until I stumbled upon the, (close your eyes), crucified cat scene. Bad...bad... bad...right up there with the horse head scene in the Godfather. Bad, Bad, Bad.
I called PETA to see what they could do about editing out the Coppola scene...I mean isn't the toll booth scene enough? The spokesman for PETA told me they had more pressing concerns than a 1972 movie. They hung up on me before I even got to ask about the freakin' cat scene in the tatoo book.
I'm not so sure about PETA anymore, so I changed their Acronym.
PETA = People for the Ethical Treatment of Artisan Bread

Here are two recipes for "PETA" chips. I'll be back with the quinoa tabouli recipe later.

Nooch Pita "PETA" Chips
3 Pita Pockets
3 T olive oil
1 /2 C Nutritional Yeast

Preheat oven to 375 degrees. Separate each round into 2 rounds. Cut each round into 8 wedges and place in single layer on baking sheet. Drizzle olive oil and sprinkle with sea salt. Bake pita wedges in oven until light and crisp about 12 minutes.

PETA II
6 Pita pockets
about 1/4 C olive oil
1.5 C shredded "Follow Your Heart" or "Daiya" mozzarella
2 T nutritional yeast

Preheat oven to 375 degrees. Split each pocket horizontally in to rounds and brush rough sides with oil. Cut each round into 8 wedges and arrange on 2 baking sheets, oiled sides up. Sprinkle with shredded vegan cheese, nooch and some sea salt. Bake 12- 15 minutes switching position of sheets halfway through.

These are perfect to nosh on when you're very scared.

  1. ooh, I love the PETA I chips recipe! I can figure out where to put the nutritional yeast, but just in case...

Not so crazy about the cat scene you describe, though :(
